Field note / 002
Then the monkeys mounted up.
ChatGPT suggested the Greene County Fair as a way to rescue an ordinary Tuesday. Somewhere between the gate and the grandstand, we encountered the Banana Derby: capuchin jockeys in bright silks riding dogs around a compact track while the announcer committed fully to the occasion.
The race supplied a sentence barely improved by explanation. The goats, frankly, were just in it for the pricey kibble the guy at the front was hawking—but my kid loved it. No pun intended.
